1970-00-00-The Welcome to Mi-Sol Park Brochure

WeIcone   to  Mi-Sol   Park.
As an introduction to Mi-Sol Park we offer you a mini-brochure covering the main topics of interest in and around the Torrevieja area in the hope that it will assist you to enjoy your holiday.

Torrevieja itself is basically a fishing village with the only other industry being the sea salt production, but it is surrounded by lovely beaches where one can lazily become very suntanned.

The highlight of   the week is the open street market which is held on Fridays. It commences around eight in the morning, and finishes about two in the afternoon. It is a combination of fruit and vegetables, clothes, shoes, souvenirs etc. There is also an indoor market which sells fruit, vegetables, meat and fresh fish- It is open every day except Sundays.

There are two Roman Catholic churches in the town, one is the original old one, and the other a modern one. Both are set in large typically Spanish squares where the very young, and the old often congregate to pass the very hot summer evenings. Torrevieja also has its own bull ring, but it is rarely used. Occasionally posters are put up in the town advising you of forthcoming events.

Restaurants are very plentiful, catering for all tastes, and pocket sizes. The attached list gives you many of those available.

The surrounding towns are also worth visiting, and the hire of a car is well worth it, considering.  Driving on the wrong side of the road is not terribly difficult to get used to.

Points of interest in the surrounding Towns.

0RIHUELA----33 kilometers.
Has an open street market on Tuesday mornings. Interesting old buildings and churches.

ELCHE....40 kilometers.
Has a very beautiful natural palm tree forst/park with a restaurant ideally set in the centre offering live entertainment in the evenings. Recently as another attraction the Rio Safari was opened, a definite for young children as apart from the usual zoo animals there is a dolphin show, fun fair attractions, and a range of quick food establishments.

SANTA PQLA.....33 kilometers.
This is another fishing village which has grown quite large. The beaches are very nice, but they can become very crowded in the peak season. Restaurants, bars and discos are plentiful. There is a boat trip to La Isla de Tabarca. This is a nice day out, and the island has its own restaurants with pleasant views.

GUARDAMAR.....13 kiLometers.
Has an open street market on Wednesday mornings. The town itself is quite small. It has its own beaches, and a very nice central square with its town and church halls being the main buildings of interest.

SAN PEDRO DEL PINATAR--- 20 kilbmeters.

LA RIBERA... .25 kilometers.
Has a open street market on Monday mornings. The two towns which basically form one are well worth visiting:  renowned throughout Spain for their warm shallow waters as being especially good for rheumatic sufferers. There are ideally situated beach restaurants all along the front, a yacht club, discos etc.. It is in fact one of Spain's military air force bases so do not be alarmed by the amount of young uniformed servicemen.

From the main harbour one can visit the Isla Perdiguera in a glass bottomed boat. Once there one can quite happily spend the day, and eat at the restaurant enjoying the crystal clear waters, and smooth beaches. From San Pedro and the Ribera the distance to La  Manga is relatively small and again it's a place well worth visiting.  It is famous for its golf course, gaming casino, hotels, and night life in general, and also happens to be the point at which two different seas meet, the Mar Menor, and the Mar Mayor, with a very thin strip of land dividing the two.

MURCIA......58 kilometers.

Murcia is a very large city with all the usual amenties. The shopping facilities are particularly good having three large department stores The most important one being "El Corte Ingles". The store has underground parking making it an ideal first stop. from there one can branch off on foot to see the other stores which are "Galerias Preciados", and Simago".

The first two have restaurants inside where one can satisfy one's appetite or quench one's thirst very pleasantly. The shops are all concentrated in one area so one can find them easily. If you feel up to it the cathedral and plateria areas are worth exploring, the latter being a maze of small shops lining the back streets of old Murcia.

Murcia has a very large football pitch and bull ring, and a huge Hypermarket. Naturally finding ones way around a city can be a trying task at the best of times, more so in a foreign country so for this reason I recommend the use of taxis within the city perimeters. This should not work out too expensive.

ALICANTE.....50 kilometers .

Main festivals from the 21st to the 30th June. It is a large city with a street market on Thursdays and Saturdays, both in the morning. The British Consulate is at Plaza Calvo Sotelo number 1. Tel. numbers 21-60-22 and 21-61-90 (check that these are up to date). The consul or his staff should be able to resolve most problems.

Once again there is a bullring, and a large number of entertainments Alicante is graced with the Santa Barbara castle which has a beautiful view of the whole town and bay. It is well worth a visit.

CUEVAS CANALUBRE.... 74 kilometers.
These are caves, situated in the town of Busot, 700 meters high up in the mountains. They are famous for their stalactites beautifully illuminated, and very impressive. There is a bar providing refreshmen-

FORTUNA.....60 kilometers.
These are hot spring baths again situated in the mountains. They are famous throughout Spain, and frequented by persons with rheumatic problems.

LA MATA. . .6 kilometers.
It is surrounded by a very large pine forest bordering the coast line which is ideal for picnics. It has a horse riding schooL/stables where one can hire a horse, and tour the surrounding areas. Directly behind the riding stables is a public swimming pool with a large aquatic show, with a restaurant, and adequate facilities for a days enjoyment.
A little further along there is a restaurant calledd the Tahiti which specializes in barbecued meats, perhaps the last port of call before returning to Mi-Sol.

Regarding Mi-Sol Park itself where no doubt you will rest between your adventures and wanderings, there are refreshing swimming pools. The bar/restaurant and the supermarket are now owned by a private person, and the last I heard he was hoping to do some work on them and intended to start this at Easter, so I cannot give you any further details as they are not under our control. We have a children's play ground.
Washing can be a chore when one feels more like sunbathing, so look for the automatic washing machine. Discs and soap powder can be bought from the office, and instructions for use are written up on the wall in the laundry room.

There is a telephone in the office, so private phone calls can be made and paid for according to the meter readings. There are also large booths installed, and run by the telephone company. The person in charge will dial the number for you, but you must know the code and the number you wish to ring.

One of the unfortunate hazzards which might occur to you whilst on your holiday is that of becoming ill. There are a number of common ailments, primarily the "runs". This can usually be stopped by taking pills "Protector" is a well known brand. Another of the great discomforts that can be avoided is sunburn. Five to ten minutes exposure a few times a day for the first three or four days, with frequent coats of a body milk will minimise the risk. Mosquitos can be a problem, although the area is sprayed.

Little is asked of you except that you respect the property, and the park facilities, leaving toilets as you would, hope to find them. That you wrap up all rubbish bags securely in order to prevent stray animals from being attracted to them. Please do not encourage or feed animals. At the best of times they can be dangerous, and also a health hazzard.
